What is Explora?
Explora is a premier search experience like GCLSearch...but for kids and students! Explora has topic overviews, research starters, and an easy-to-use search interface to make learning and research for projects easy and fun!
Who can use Explora?
Anyone with a valid GCLS library card is able to use Explora.
How does Explora benefit teachers and educators?
Explora has many resources geared towards teachers and educators. Looking for curriculum standards for a particular state, lesson plans, students tools, and other valuable links? Then check out the For Educators section at the top of the screen in the blue toolbar of Explora.
What grades is Explora suitable for?
Since Explora combines the powers of the former Kids Search, Searchasaurus, and Student Research Center, Explora is great for ages K-12. It even features Lexile Range filters to help narrow searches down to best suit the reading level of the student. Check out the Lexile-to-Grade Correspondance Chart for more information about Lexile Ranges.
My high schooler(s) need more advanced reading and articles. What is the next step up from Explora?
If you have students who are beyond the content of what Explora provides and are ready to take on serious research, then GCLSearch is the next step! GCLSearch is a discovery service that links them to virtually all of the databases we currently subscribe to and allow them to access higher level research and journal articles. Built with convenience in mind, GCLSearch provides a "one-stop" search experience just like Explora, but with adults and students in mind.
What happened to Kids Search, Searchasaurus, and the Student Research Center?
EBSCO, the company behind those products and Explora, decided to discontinue those three databases on July 1st 2016. Explora is intended to replace all three of those databases.
