Notary Policy

The Gloucester County Library offers free notary public services for the benefit of the residents of our  communities. Library notaries are scheduled to work during the libraries’ regular hours of  operation. Notary service is not available in the fifteen minutes prior to the time of closing. Customers seeking notary service should call the appropriate library branch prior to their visit to ensure that a notary is available. 

· Valid photo identification is required of any customer seeking notary service.

· Notary service is not available for deeds, mortgages, wills, powers of attorney, living wills, living trusts, codicils, and depositions.

· Notaries cannot pre-date or post-date an action, prepare a legal document or give advice on legal matters, or notarize documents in which they have a personal interest.

· The library will not provide  witnesses, and witnesses may not be solicited from customers using the library.  In order to serve as a witness, the witness must personally know the person whose document is being notarized and must be in possession of a valid photo identification.

· Since the notary must be able to read and understand what he or she has been asked to notarize, documents in any language other than English will not be notarized at the library.

· A third party may assist a customer communicate with the notary, if necessary. In this case, the notary should require valid photo identification from the third party.

· Certain public documents cannot be copied and notarized. Examples are: birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage certificates.

· Notaries will not provide service if the customer, document or circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt or uncertainty for the library. In this event, the library notary may, at his or her sole discretion, decline to provide notary service.

Glassboro Notary

The Glassboro Branch of the Gloucester County Library has a notary on staff.  Please call ahead to check staff availability 881-0001.  Services are provided at no charge. Library staff do not notarize mortgages, wills, or power of attorney documents.

· The municipal offices in Glassboro provide notary services at a cost of $2.50 per stamp. They are located at 1 South Main Street, Glassboro, (856) 881-9230.

· The municipal offices in Clayton provide notary services at $1.00 per stamp. They are located at 125 North Delsea Drive, Clayton, (856) 881-2882.

· The Elk Township municipal offices provide notary services at no charge. They are located at 667 Whig Lane Road, Monroeville, (856) 881-6525.

Greenwich Notary

The Greenwich Branch of the Gloucester County library has notaries on staff. Please call ahead for availability, (856) 423-0684. Services are provided at no charge. Library staff do not notarize mortgages, wills, or power of attorney documents. 

· The municipal offices of Greenwich Township notarize for residents at no charge. They are located at 420 Washington Street, Gibbstown, (856) 423-1038.

Logan Notary

The Logan Branch of the Gloucester County Library provides free notary services. Please call ahead for staff availability, (856) 241-0202. Library staff do not notarize mortgages, wills, or power of attorney documents. 

· The municipal offices of Logan Township provide free notarizations to residents of New Jersey. Their address is 125 Main Street, Bridgeport, (856) 467-3424.

Mullica Hill / Harrison Twp Notary

The Mullica Hill Branch of the Gloucester County Library has notaries on staff. Please call ahead to check staff availability, (856) 223-6070.  Services are provided at no charge. Library staff do not notarize mortgages, wills, or power of attorney documents.

· The offices of the Harrison Township Municipal Building provide notary services, at no charge, for residents of Harrison Township only. They are open 8-4; please call ahead for staff availability. They are located at 114 Bridgeton Pike, Mullica Hill, (856) 478-4111.

· Woodbury Heights municipal offices notarize for free for residents of Woodbury Heights only. There is a charge for non-residents. They are located at 500 Elm Avenue, Woodbury Heights, (856) 848-2832.

· National Park municipal offices provide notary services at no charge. They are located at 7 South Grove Avenue,  National Park,  (856) 845-3891.                        

Swedesboro Notary

The Swedesboro Branch of the Gloucester County library has notaries on staff. Please call ahead for availability, (856) 467-0111. Library staff do not notarize mortgages, wills, or power of attorney documents. Services are provided at no charge.
