A single-stream recycling program is in operation. This means you
place all of your RECYCLABLES in one container--the blue RecycleBank wheeled
container. If you use any other container, it will be picked up but you
will receive no credit from RecycleBank. (The old green containers may
be retained for brush and twig collection but not for grass collection).
April 2008 Update - read the "Introducing
RecycleBank" mailer-brochure (PDF).

RECYCLING...IT
MAKES CENTS
Trash pickup and disposal fees account for almost 10% or more of the total
municipal budget. With increasing dump fees, the cost of disposal is rising
year after year.
East Greenwich averages 250 tons of trash per month (as of February 2005)
and approximately 50 tons of recyclables. Every tone of recyclables saves
approximately $70 in disposal fees. Through state incentives, we receive
funds when we recycle 25% of our waste stream or more. In 2004 it cost East
Greenwich $225,000 to dispose of its trash, and $250,000 in 2005.
NEW trash and recycling ordinances, effective in January 2006, will save
homeowners tax dollars and jump-start a cleaner and greener community.
Please remember that most of your trash is RECYCLABLE cardboard, paper,
glass, plastic and aluminum. By recycling, we help the environment by putting
less in landfills and incinerators. Every year companies find more uses
for recycled products. Let's come together as a community and do our part.
Encourage your neighbors and children to recycle.
Inside the 2008 township calendar (to begin April 1), and also on this web
page, you can read the recycling guidelines. If you have any additional
questions or comments about recycling, please contact John DeGeorge.
